Solar Energy Study
2010
Planning of the University’s energy supply partly from solar energy:
From March to August 2010, seven students have studied and determined the roof area of the University of Hohenheim and found out that there lies a great potential for renewable energies installation. A project proposal was prepared based on a stakeholders analysis, the simulation of the incomes generation with a professional software and a profitability analysis on selected roofs. It comprises all the necessary information to design the solar energy facility. On this basis and in cooperation with UBA and the University’s Management, a multifunctional solar energy facility could come into being in the short term. This multifunctional facility showcases the technological progress of energy generation both in terms of ecological and economic expertise. It could therefore serve demonstrative and teaching purposes and in conjunction with a solar charging station at a car pool, serve as an electric mobility demonstrative project.
The implementation of this project with partners from the energy industry would have already been possible in 2010. Although the compensation for electricity fed into the grid has significantly sunken, this installation could be profitable thanks to presently decreasing initial costs and increasing electricity prices. The foundations for cooperation with the electricity supplier of the University (Natural Power) would also already be laid.
